Viernes 21 de noviembre de 2025

Within the framework of the X International Diploma program in Social Doctrine of the Church and the Jubilee of Education that took place in Rome, professor from the Ecclesial Faculty of Theology, Juan Pablo Faúndez, had the opportunity to meet and have a dialogue with important authorities at the Holy See, sharing their perspectives on the future of the Church.

First, the scholar met with the Secretary of the Vatican State, Cardinal Pietro Parolin, to whom he presented with some of his books published within the last years. The books address Bioethics, Social Doctrine of the Church, and Canonic Law, pointing to a reflection around the position of the Church in the complex context of International Relations that humanity is going through.

Delving into the situation of our continent, the professor of Social Doctrine of the Church also held an extensive dialogue with Rodrigo Guerra, Secretary of the Pontifical Committee for Latin America, and lawyer Guzmán Carriquiry, former responsible of the same role, who was in charge of this committee since the pontificate of Saint Paul VI to Pope Francis.

“Cardinal Pietro Parolin and I talked about the work of the PUCV, and Secretary Rodrigo Guerra and I addressed relevant topics about the political projection in Latin America and how to contribute from the University to this processes.” the scholar pointed out.

Rodrigo Guerra was part of the International Lecture of Social Doctrine of the Church, created and led by professor Faúndez, and he actively participated in it until taking his current role at the Holy See.

In order to plan possible collaborations between our PUCV Science for the Family Program and the European Federation of Catholic Families (FAFCE), the professor also met with Dr. Vincenzo Bassi, president of the Federation, one of the oldest and globally renowned organizations on family issues. This meeting discussed the possibility of having a future graduate program.

Finally, the scholar had the opportunity to share with Flaminia Giovanelli, who was called in the 1970s to be a part of the Justice and Peace Vatican Council, joining as the Subsecretary of the Dicastery for Integral Human Development from 2010 to 2017, when she became one of the women with most responsibility in the Holy See.

“Through these opportunities, our Ecclesial Faculty of Theology continues in the spirit of international openness and strengthening ties with the Universal Church, through connections and shared reflections of our professors in the Petrine See”, professor Faúndez concluded.
